In any club one of the primary aims should be to provide players with the tools to succeed. This includes physical development. Keep the physical one step ahead of the technical and tactical. Improve the player’s athleticism and then you have a greater foundation to take their technical & tactical performance to another level.
In a game the player is asked to
BRACE – ACCELERATE – STOP – JUMP – LAND – HOP – LUNGE – CHANGE DIRECTION – PUSH – ROTATE
Poor movement and physical limitations can negatively effect speed, fitness, skill execution and increase risk of injury. Become more aware of growth and maturation and learn how to implement a physical development program as part of your overall player development program.

To perform a player must:
JUMP TO WIN POSSESSION
DECELERATE TO EVADE AN OPPONENT
LAND & BALANCE ON 1 LEG
RUN REPEATEDLY AT HIGH SPEEDS
TRAIN CONSISTENTLY
CHANGE DIRECTION + APPLY FORCE WHILE DEFENDING/TACKLING
Simple things done on a consistent basis and great progress can be made. If it is all about the player, which it should be, well then physical development is a must in any club program.
